Dredge: Mabuiag plus 3 booster stations
Hall Contracting has dredged the muds and silts from Kitchener
Wharf at Darwin for the construction of the Darwin City Waterfront
Project. This project is an integrated residential public space
incorporating a convention centre and entertainment facilities,
right in the heart of Darwin.
Hall Contracting’s role was to dredge in excess of 500,000
cubic m of muds from the area to deposition areas at East Arm,
over 6.5km away. To achieve this pumping distance, Hall used 3
remotely controlled booster stations in the line. Another challenge
was crossing the Darwin East Arm Rail Bund, which forms the last
link in the Adelaide – Darwin Rail Link.
Dredge 'Mabuiag' at Darwin city Waterfront.
Hall Contracting worked closely with consulting engineers KBR
and Macmahon Contractors to find a way of crossing the rail bund
whilst keeping the rail open. This was achieved by laying the
pipe through the rail ballast.
