Maroochy River Dredging

Construction of geotextile groyne.
Stage 1 of this beach replenishment project undertaken in 2001 involved
the dredging of 100,000m3 of sand from near the mouth of the Maroochy
River (utilising the dredge 'Kikilu') and placement along a 1km
stretch of eroded beach to the south of the river mouth.
The remedial works also involved the construction of a single
100m long geotextile sand-filled groyne to help reduce future
erosion along the beach.

Filling of geotextile sand bags.
The works were completed prior to the specified date which coincided
with the start of the fish breeding season.

Beach replenishment.
Stage 2 works involved utilising the dredge 'Warraber' for the
dredging of a further 50,000m3 of sand to areas located along
the southern banks of the river mouth. An additional 3 geotextile
groynes were constructed to the north of the first groyne to further
control the mouth of the river.
