Rabaul Wharf Restoration

Client: Gazelle Restoration Authority / World Bank
Dredge: Scorpio 30”
Date: May 2005 – September 2005

In 1994, the volcano in Rabual erupted and destroyed the township and harbour. Volcanic Ash metres thick buried the livelihoods of the local people. Since then, the town has been slowly recovered and part of that effort included reopening of the all important sea wharves.

Hall Contracting was contracted to carry out dredging of this volcanic ash at Berths 1 & 2 and Dawapia Wharf. With the Volcano still rumbling away nearby, Hall Contracting completed this project in an effi cient manner and is proud to have contributed to the rebuilding eff ort for this most beautiful town.
