Torres Strait Dredging
Location: Islands of Torres Strait
Approx. Project Value: $4 Million
Dredge: Kikilu 14"
Date: 1991
Client: Australian Construction Services
Channels were dredged into seven Torres Strait Islands and pumped
ashore into pits for future use as fill material. The work was carried
out under strict environmental guidelines due to the pristine nature
of the area and the locals' dependence on the fishing industry.
Due to the remoteness of the area, Hall Contracting operated
from a 1000 ton barge converted to
accommodation workshop and equipment carrier. This project was
completed under time and on budget.
