Hail Creek Mine Tailings Dredging

Hail Creek, Queensland

Dredging of approximately 280,000m³ of sediment for Hail Creek Mine.

Hail Creek Mine Tailings Dredging

#About this project

Hail Creek Mine is located 140 kilometres south-west of Mackay and 50 kilometres north east of Nebo, in central Queensland and supplies international markets with hard coking and thermal coal. Rio Tinto Coal Australia manages the operation on behalf of the joint venture partners. Hall Contracting has been awarded the contract to undertake the dredging of the polishing pond for Rio Tinto.

The sedimentation in the pond has built up to the point that it now affects the efficient operation of the polishing pond. It is estimated that approx. 280,000m3 is to be removed by CSD Navua to a Tailings Storage Facility approximately 1,500 meters from the polishing pond. The overall length of pipeline to be used will be approx. 1,800meters. In order to get to the tailings facility Hall’s dredge pipeline has an elevation of approx. 80m and will require two booster pumps.
