The equipment – donated by Hall Contracting – includes two new first aid kits, two oxygen therapy kits, a training defibrillator and a soft rescue board.
MSLSC Lifesaving Manager Brian Goulding said the new items would not only enhance patient care and outcomes during rescues but also support advanced training for volunteers.
“This equipment is crucial in building the capability of our team and will help us to achieve our goal of zero preventable deaths on Maroochydore Beach in the months and years ahead,” Mr Goulding said.
“Having up-to-date equipment and regular training means our lifesavers can respond quickly and confidently in an emergency, and that can make all the difference when every second counts.”
Mr Goulding said recent drownings across Queensland served as a powerful reminder of why water safety awareness and vigilance were more critical than ever.
“Sadly, we have seen a spate of tragic drownings in Queensland waters recently, with two fatalities on the Sunshine Coast in the last month alone,” he said.
“In the 12 months leading up to June 2025, Queensland recorded 90 drowning deaths – a 36% increase on the 10-year average and the second-highest number of fatalities in Australia during that period.
“As lifesavers, we regularly see people swimming in rips just metres from a patrolled area, and we know that most drownings occur outside flagged or patrolled locations.
“We’re urging beachgoers to swim between the red and yellow flags these school holidays. This simple action can make all the difference in ensuring you and your loved ones get home safely.”
Hall Contracting COO Daniel Grey said the organisation was proud to play a small part in supporting local lifesavers.
“Our team works in and around water every day – including having delivered projects at Maroochydore Beach – so we know firsthand just how unpredictable currents and conditions can be,” Mr Grey said.
“As a Sunshine Coast-based business, we want to back the people who keep our community safe, and we hope this equipment helps the Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club to continue its outstanding work on this popular stretch of coastline.”
MSLSC is a volunteer-run organisation with approximately 1,000 members. It performed 27 rescues and undertook more than 780 preventative actions throughout the 2024-25 season. The 2025-26 season started on 20 September 2025 and runs through to 4 May 2026.
