TUVALU, PACIFIC ISLANDS
Climate change adaptation works in the remote Pacific Island nation of Tuvalu
As a small island nation with an average elevation of less than two metres, Tuvalu is distinctly vulnerable to the impacts rising sea levels and severe weather events. To help combat this, Hall has been engaged to deliver the first phase of the Tuvalu Coastal Adaptation Project which involves constructing various coastal protection infrastructures across three of the country’s coral atolls.
After mobilising to the Funafuti atoll in November 2022, Hall began constructing a new 7.3 hectare bunded foreshore reclamation area at Vaiaku.
The crew also delivered a new boat harbour and breakwater in Funafuti before relocating to Nanumaga to construct a 665-metre-long berm top barrier and boat ramp. Hall delivered the final stage of TCAP at Nanumea, involving beach nourishment works and constructing a 1.3-kilometre-long berm top barrier, 170-metre-long Seabee seawall and seven reef-top barriers.
